2007 ~ The Alfred Bicentennial Program offers
Railroad Theme - FREE & Open to the Public
Featuring
Live music, stories and historic photos
"The Erie Railroad in Song, Story and Image" will be presented at 7 pm
on Wednesday, November 14 at The Seventh Day Baptist Church in Alfred
Station in conjunction with the ongoing Alfred Bicentennial celebration.
The multi-media show includes a concert of railroad songs and a power
point slide show of historic, local railroad photographs.
Music will be performed by 'The High Banks Boomers.' The band consists
of local journalist and rail historian Howard Appell and his wife Cher,
John Quinn of Portageville, and Howie Lester of Hemlock.
Instrumentation includes banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica and
squeezebox accordion. Selections will include railroad work songs, songs
about hobos, train wrecks, popular railroad tunes and disappearing
railroads with accompanying stories and legends.
Photos will be from the collection of William Reddy and the camera of
the late Erie station agent Reginald Nugent, circa 1940s through early
1950s.
The program is free and open to the public.
